Kewell Named Oceania Player Of The Year

Kewell picks up the award again
02/09/2004. Liverpool's Harry Kewell has insisted he is committed to playing for Australia after being named Oceania's Footballer of the Year.

It is the third time in six seasons the 25-year-old has picked up the award. His former team-mate at Leeds United Mark Viduka came second and New Zealand's Ryan Nelsen was third.

It had been reported that Kewell would snub Australia in this year's Oceania World Cup qualifying campaign, but he has rejected the claims.

"I've told (Australia coach) Frank Farina that if I'm fit and well, I will be there for him and that includes the Oceania World Cup qualifying series this year," Kewell said.

"And stories I would rather play for Liverpool than Australia are totally wrong. I was asked what I would like with Liverpool and said to win a premiership. Australia and the World Cup were never mentioned in the question."

Ja millähän näytöillä tämä valinta taasen tehtiin?
Vidookshan se meidät valioliigassa piti. Ei Qll, eikä ole lammikossakaan ihmeemmin loistanut.
No synkkä oli Vidooksinkin syksy...

Vidukan asenne kohdallaan! Vasta kuukausi sitten Viduka olisi halunnut lähteä Leedsistä, mutta nyt Viduka pysyy Leedsissä.  :D

Viduka Lifts The Troops

United striker Mark Viduka has been helping lift United's spirits behind the scenes, earning the admiration of his team-mates.

The Aussie striker came in for special praise from both manager Eddie Gray and skipper Dominic Matteo, who believe Viduka will have a massive part to play in keeping The Whites in the Premiership.

Viduka gave an outstanding performance as Leeds thrashed Wolves 4-1, and scored his first Premier League goal since December right at the end.  It was his overall performance that impressed his captain though.

"The big man is a breath of fresh air," said Matteo, "his attitude is unbelievable at the moment.

"Since he's come back from Australia he's been really, really good to have around the place, he really wants us to stay up and he's really working hard in training.

"He's also been getting everyone keyed up for the game and he's been very important to us over the last week.

"Fair play to him because he's had a lot on his plate recently but he deserves all the praise tonight."

Manager Eddie Gray says having Viduka on form will be a huge boost to United's survival hopes.

"Mark has proved himself time after time as a goalscorer, if we can get the best out of him then staying in this league is easily achievable.

"I'm delighted he got a goal for himself, he worked tirelessly for the team and certainly deserved one."

Viduka has been called up for Australia's friendly game with Venezuela in Caracas much to United's dismay. If he goes, Viduka would arrive back in the country barely 24 hours ahead of United's trip to Old Trafford where they face Manchester United. Socceroos Coach Frank Farina has indicated to SkySports News that he will insist that Viduka and the other UK-based players join their team-mates on the trip.

Jotain tällaista tarvitaan. Kunhan Viduka ja muutama muu avainpelaaja nousee johtamaan jengiä, meillä on vielä sanssit säilyä. Eivät nuo muutkaan alapään joukkueet niin kaksisilta vaikuta.
